Customers of SoCal Edison or SDG&E Are Eligible
Right now there are major rebates available for California homeowners with solar panels to install a battery backup system. Not only can a solar battery provide your home with seamless energy should the power grid go down. It also allows homeowners the ability to store excess solar-generated power for later use instead of sending it back into the grid.
With California’s original net metering policy, homeowners received credits for extra solar power sent back to the grid. However, in 2016, California approved Net Metering 2.0, eventually requiring all new solar homeowners to switch to time-of-use (TOU) rates. In a nutshell, this new policy makes electricity more expensive during peak hours like late afternoon and early evening. These are the times when the population needs electricity most and when solar customers have to rely on grid power.
However, by installing a battery backup system with a solar panel system, allows homeowners to store excess solar power during the day when utility rates are cheap and use that energy at night when rates are more expensive.
Save Thousands On A Battery Installation
There’s no better time than now for Southern California homeowners to purchase a solar battery backup system. Our state’s Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) offers rebates for a solar battery backup system. The great news is if your utility provider is PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas or SDG&E you are eligible for this rebate.
There is also a federal incentive still available. Even though the federal solar tax credit was lowered to 26% at the beginning in 2020, it will drop again down to 22% in 2021. And if you wait till 2022, the residential solar tax credit will be gone. Learn more about federal solar incentives here.
